About Jayden Marriott
Hi! My name is Jayden, and I am a part-time artist, creating intriguing and expressive artworks in Newcastle NSW. My work has always had a very energetic, yet loose style, which I have been pushing the boundaries on more and more.
Art has always been apart of my life, however, in October of 2022, I decided to take the leap and post my artwork online for the world to see. Since then, I have been fortunate enough to continue to connect with art collectors around the globe. Thank you!
but wtf is it that you create?
HOW ABOUT WE TAKE A LOOK AT SOME QUESTIONS I GET ABOUT MY WORK,
WHAT IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE?
My work isn’t really meant to capture the world as we see it. My goals isn’t to capture a photographic rendition of a person, or to paint the sweeping sunset that consumes the sky. To me, I leave that to my phone camera. My work focuses on the unseen elements of our world. Energy, emotions, thoughts and feelings. When all these elements overlap, it creates an experience, which is what my art captures. Every brushstroke, every mark made on the canvas, it’s all an experience, frozen in time.
HOW DID YOU DEVELOP THIS STYLE?
My work has always been very energetic. When I was younger, I would draw quickly and enjoyed the act of creating more than the finished product. This way of working has stuck with me for every creative project I have done. I wanted to push this idea further and further, which made me start to strip my work into raw forms, eventually leading me to abstract paintings where I could truely show my thoughts and feelings in a way that just felt right.
IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU NEED IN ORDER TO CREATE?
Music and time alone. Music is something I cannot live without. It is the most beautiful way to decorate time. The power music has to bring you back to specific moments within your life is beautiful, and I use that principle with my work. Time alone with my own thoughts is also essential. Sometimes I sit for days, waiting for the right time to make an artwork. I could sit in my studio all day just to produce an artwork that takes around 30 minutes. Thats all apart of the experience.
WHERE DO THESE ABSTRACT PAINTINGS COME FROM? WHAT IS THE INFLUENCE?
When I first started working on my abstract artworks, something about the process just felt so true to myself, but I never knew why. It wasn’t until I sat myself down and started to wonder, why was this style of working so pleasing? I went down a pretty big rabbit hole that made me realise the way I think is a little different. I don’t have an inner voice in my head, and I also struggle to create images in my mind. So how do I think? It is a little abstract, but I think in masses of energy. This energy can change colours and mould into different forms and shapes, all depending on what is happening in my life and how I am feeling. It made me realise that my paintings have been a direct reflection of my mind. Exactly what you see on the canvas, that is what was happening in my mind at the time. It is the human experience, and if you resonate with that on any level, thank you.
